ADECISION of the Transport Tribunal enabling Securicor, Ltd., and Securicor (Southern), Ltd., to operate 30 armoured vehicles for the carriage of cash was mentioned in the Court of
Appeal last Monday.
Mr. Charles Beddington, for Security Express, Ltd., said that his clients, who had lodged notice of appeal from the decision, had been handicapped because the Tribunal, who gave their -decision orally on December 1 list year, had not yet presented their reasons in writing. He asked that the appeal, listed for hearing shortly, should be stood over.
Mr. P. Kenworthy-Browne, for Securicor, said that he could not resist the application, but it could cause his clients considerable difficulties. They were already operating on the Tribunal's decision and were expanding rapidly in different parts of the country.
Mr. Beddington said it was possible that when the written decision was received, the appeal would die "a natural or an unnatural death," but his clients wanted to keep the position open. He understood that the Tribunal were not likely to produce their reasons within three weeks.
The court directed that the appeal be stood out of the list for three weeks.
FARES INCREASES GRANTED TO MIDLAND RED AN application for fares increases by the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., was granted at a joint sitting of the West and East Midland Traffic Commisioners on Tuesday. The case had been continued from the day before.
The Commissioners declared they were satisfied that the company were in need of additional revenue if they were to honour their obligations to the public and shareholders alike. They considered the company's proposals for increasing stage carriage fares and abolishing workmen's return fares to be a fair and reasonable way of spreading the burden over the whole of the travelling public.
The increases, originally objected to by 10 Midland local authorities and the British Communist Party, will come intc effect on July 28.
