BIG MOUTH

CHANGES to the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations made recently permit the use of certain reversing alarms on lorries, coaches, engineering plant and works trucks. To meet the new regulations, Oakwall of Tamworth is now offering the Big Mouth alarm which announces "Warning, vehicle reversing" in a real (not robotic) voice.

Unlike conventional reversing alarms which tend to be non-directional, Oakwall claims its BigMouth voice is directional and commands greater attention from people working in close proximity to vehicles.

The alarm can be run off 12 or 24volt systems and is easily installed either to the reversing light circuit or to a separate illuminated dash-mounted switch. Connection to the sidelights circuit satisfies current legislation by ensuring that the alarm does not cause disturbance at night.

Solid-state electronics and a weatherproof horn speaker ensure the BigMouth unit's durability. Cost for thc BigMouth speaker system is .i.34 including vat and post and packing. Oakwall, 15 Turuberry, Tamworth, Staffordshire B77 4NR.

FLEXI WASH

THE Monarch E from A.V.W. Wilcomatic of Edinburgh is electronically controlled and designed to wash vehicles from the largest commercial down to car-derived vans.

The design features a three-brush — two vertical and one horizontal — traversing gantry to provide a two-pass wash.

A micro-processor control system gives a flexibility of machine control previously unobtainable. There is a visual display of machine functions and plain language readout to assist fault finding.

Large diameter X-section polyethylene filament brushes are made in 305mm (12in) lengths with each core being divided into two halves for ease of replacement. The horizontal brush incorporates a sensing system to wash between the rear of cab and front of trailer on articulated and refrigerated vehicles.

Advanced features include automatic lubrication of wheel bearings, and construction in heavy gauge galvanised steel to give a robust and rigid structure.

The machine is also available in five height configurations up to 4.6m (15ft) and provides thorough washing for small and large vehicle fleets at low operational costs, with minimum consumption of power, water and detergent.
