• Exel Logistics has joined forces with sister NFC company BRS to win a multi-million pound distribution contract with Storehouse.
BRS already has a 225 million contract with Storehouse, but this the first time the two subsidiaries have been brought together in this way.
Exel will manage Storehouse's distribution operation from three centres in Wallingford, Wellingborough and Atherstone. BRS will supply 900 staff, 130 vehicles and 93,000m2 of warehousing.
A new Exel Logistics subsidiary called Storeflow will be dedicated to the operation. BRS Group managing director Ron Irons says: "Under this contract we have channelled the specialist management skills from BRS and Exel. It proves how flexible the NFC is. Where we have another big contract we will do it again."
The project was led by Ron Irons, George Hazle (managing director of BRS Midlands) and Mark Bedernan (managing director of Exel LogisticsGrocery and Leisure).
Exel Logistics-Temperature Controlled Services has won a distribution contact with the UK's largest cash and carry wholesaler, Booker Cash and Carry. The Exel subsidiary will provide 12 vehicles and a workforce of 50 with cold storage space at South Kirkby. Exel Logistics-Temperature Controlled Services covers the areas formerly operated by Alpine and Tempco Union.
