• BRS ENGINEERING opens its £500,000 plus service centre at Reading on July 10. "It's the most up to date and best equipped in the BRS network," says southern head of engineering Mike Donnelly.
The centre will be open 24 hours a day and operate the AA/BRS rescue service. It will be self contained with its own reception and parts stores and help to pilot BRS Engineering's nationwide computer network. Job times will be given, varying from that for a changing a wheel on, say, a Leyland Roadrunner to a full service on a Daf tractive unit.
• THE CARDEV cam cover from Harrogate, North Yorkshire-based Cardev International, was shown for the first time at the Road Haulage Association's TankCon exhibition at Preston. It replaces normal S-bushes and ingeniously provides protection and cam support permanently. Tank and specialist semi-trailer manufacturer Clayton Commercials is offering it as an original equipment option. The cam cover kit retails at £116 per axle set including the collar. It will fit any type of axle.
