On the track at MIRA, the 13518 gave a lively performance accelerating over the measured mile while cab interior noise levels remained exceptionally low throughout the speed range.
Under maximum brake pedal applications the Steyr's service brakes were quick to respond, giving high retardation figures and short stopping distances. There was, however, a tendency for the rear brakes to lock but this did not adversely affect the 13518's overall braking stability. Less extreme applications gave the pedal a good progressive feel.
