• Rubery Owen-Rockwell opened its new administration, design and development site in North Wales last week, as part of an £8 million investment programme to achieve qualitycontrol standards BS5750 Part 1 and ISO 9001.
RO-R produces 80,000 axles a year, half of them for export and plans to increase production to 104,000 units a year by 1994. About 50% of new trailers are now running on air, says RO-R. The introduction of the 24-tonne bogie had little impact on the move towards air suspensions, and the company predicts that saturation point will be about 75% of the market.
The company is developing composite materials to reduce the weight of its air suspension systems in time for the Frankfurt show later in the year.
