Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Design Which Enables the Hood to be Fitted on Existing Vehicles.

THE ingenious motor coach hood designed by Karrier Motors, Ltd., -which folds Sideways instead of endways, is known to the majority of our readers. It has, in the farm in which it has hitherto been described, had the disadvantage that in its application it' was confined to vehicles specially designed to accominodate it, and having certain special fittings incorporated in the body"work. Amongst these fittings we may refer in particular to the longitudinal container box for the folded hood.

In patent specification No. 195,213, which has just been Published, and for which Kerner Motors, Ltd., and H. E. • Austin are joint157 responsible; a medified form of this hood is described, which is desigeed to be Capable of being fitted

to existing vehicles. The long hoodstisks are detachable and, when not in use, May be stowed with the canvas

cover in a, box, which may be fitted in any convenient position alongside the chassis or body. The swinging arms are so pivoted that each set of them may easily be folded behind the seat to the back of which it is attached. When folded they are entirely "out of the way, and do not interfere with the comfort of passengers on the coach. A spring, designed to balance the weight of the hood, is arranged so that it facilitates the operation of raising and lowering the latter, whilst provision is made, by means of a toggle lever and catch, for holding the hood taut while it is up.
