• The threat of a suicide truck bomber slamming into the Houses of Parliament has been suggested as the reason for huge concrete blocks being positioned along the building's west front last week.
In light of events around the world and the fact that security in the capital remains at a high level, Scotland Yard has taken the precautionary measure. However, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan police insists it is not acting on any specific intelligence: "We have had heightened security since September 11 and it is constantly under review. This is part Of our security measures.'' Security at Heathrow has also been beefed up and concrete blocks have been delivered to the airport too in an effort to protect the public from any acts of terrorism.
