PRIZE MASCOTT
Parkstone, Poole, Renault service dealer W Belben Commercials has been presented wtth a Mascott as a prize by the manufacturer in recognition of its roadside assistance performance in 2002. The award is based on a number of performance criteria, including the time taken from receiving the call to getting the stranded truck mobile again.
VINTAGE RIGIDS
Older tractors-1993 to 1996 vintage—are receiving a new lease of life by being converted into rigids in growing numbers. So says George Alexander, chief editor, commercial vehicles, at Glass's Information Services. "It's always gone on, but the trend seems to be accelerating," he reports. "Units of this vintage often don't have enough power for use as tractors these days, but they've ample power on tap for most rigid applications."

Once again it's specialist equipment that's been making the running at auctions countrywide. At a recent sale held by Commercial Vehicle Auctions at Doncaster, a 1998 R-registered
Foden 3340 8x4 skip loader went for 224,000, while a 1999 Daf 55 210 T-plated vacuum tanker sold for £26,500. A sixwheeler R-registered Scania P94 260 dating back to 1997 with a fridge body sold for 215,000.
SATURDAY SALES
Saturday auctions continue to attract crowds. One organised in Cambridgeshire for David Floyd Transport saw a Tirsan triaxle 13.6m stepframe low-loader sold for 218,900.
Further north, a sale organised by Malcolm Harrison on behalf of Meakin Transport at the latter's Morley, Leeds, location saw a 2001 Oaf LF5515-tonner with a beavertail body and a hydraulic ramp designed to load and unload fork-lifts knocked down for 230,000.
A Volvo FL6 21-tanner dating back to 2000 with a beavertail body went for 223,000. Turning to trailers, a 1996 Andover stepframe curtainsider with a sliding roof and a hydraulic ramp for handling fork-lifts sold for 224,000. A 2000-vintage W-plated Scania R124 420 6x2 Topline tractor went for 235,750, while a 1996 ERF EC11380 6x2 midlift tractor made 210,000.
