Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NORTH WALES haulier who was seen using a mobile phone while driving a lorry on the A55 in January has had his LGV driving licence suspended for 19 days.

A neurin Llewelyn Jones of Myndd Isa, Mold, had been called before Welsh Traffic Commissioner Nick Jones, Llewelyn Jones said he operated two vehicles, which were driven by his son and him. There was handsfree equipment, he said, but as he was hard of hearing, he removed the phone from its cradle to hear what was being said. Llewelyn Jones claimed he was in a queue of slow-moving traffic at the time.

The TC said the starting point for penalties of vocational car drivers using a mobile phone illegally was a 14-day suspension. The damage that could be caused by a heavy truck going out of control because the driver was distracted far exceeded that of a car in similar circumstances.

The TC added Llewelyn Jones should understand if he was not taking action to ensure his staff were driving safely, his 0-licence was at risk.
