GATESHEAD'S trams are to be replaced by trolleybuses. Orders for 83 trolleybuses, worth £250,000, have been placed by the Gateshead and District Tramways Co., subject to•Gateshead Corporation's completing an
agreement with the L.N.E. Railway Co. for the raising of a railway bridge. Two more railway bridges will also be raised, and the existing tramway overhead equipment will require extensive reconstruction.
A revision of the electric supply arrangements is necessary, and the buildings at the company's depot will have to be enlarged. The change-over is not likely to take place before 1948.
