A seat belt kit made by Williams Motor Co. (Manchester) Ltd. enables operators of Deansgate / Ford Transit mini-buses and coaches to comply with the amendment to the C and U Regulations which became law last April. 30. Seat belts are now compulsory in vehicles under 30cwt unladen for the driver and the seat beside the driver. The amendment states that where the main entrance occupies this latter position (as it does on the Deansgate conversion) the seat specified for a belt is the first one on the nearside. However, the strong points on the Transit are placed too far forward for this purpose.
Williams has now received Ministry approval for a kit, comprising three specially designed chassis brackets, anchoring bolts, belt and fitting instructions. It will retail at £9, or £16 including fitting which takes approximately four hours. However, any garage with welding equipment can fit it.
