A universal brake analyser, introduced by Tecalemit (Engineering) Ltd., features a four-roller floor unit in which each pair of rollers is driven by a 15 hp electric motor. The torque reaction of the rollers is measured by strain gauges connected to the control console. A wheel-slip roller, located between each pair of rollers, is wired to a warning light on the console.
The console is a freestanding cabinet that incorporates a Honeywell computerized Visicorder which records the time lag between brake-pedal application and application of the braking force as well as strain-gauge readings. Braking force pedal pressure and time lag are plotted as a trace on the Visicorder.
Axle loads up to 13 tons can be accommodated on the rollers and a braking force up to 8,000lb can be recorded. The rollers operate at a speed equivalent to 1.25 mph.
