A driver whose truck shed its load of timber, killing an elderly couple in a passing car, has been fined £350.
Andrew Allison was working for Selkirk-based forestry contractor Elliot Henderson which has already been fined £10,000 as a result of the accident on the A7 in Scotland (CM 8-14 November).
Douglas Monaghan. defending, told the court that Allison had been given insufficient training and equipment to secure the load properly.
Dumfries Sheriff's Court also endorsed Allison's licence with three penalty points after he pleaded guilty to driving with an insecure load which was above the legal weight limit.
Safety guidelines for cross-loading, where logs are piled at right-angles to the road on flatbeds, are currently being reviewed by the Transport Research Laboratory through a three-month programme of tests.
