• Apprentices graduating this year with NVQ level 3 and BTEC national certificates include 45 from Daf Trucks' national dealership scheme and 26 from Volvo Truck & Bus's training programme.
Oaf's batch of apprentices received their awards from managing director Aad Goudriaan, who, while highlighting the key role played by Soundwell College, Bristol in their technical training, also warned of an impending skills shortage which will affect the industry Volvo's MD Albert Hendrickse and VT&B (Scotland)'s MD Derek Leggate presented certificates to the Volvo students on their successful completion of the threeyear training course.
This year both Oaf and Volvo have a fresh trainee intake of 45 and 50 students respectively.
Oaf's best third-year student is Gary Watson of Chatfields Tyne Tees, Darlington while Volvo's top achiever is Philip Pennington (centre in photograph) from Crossroads Truck & Bus, Lincoln.
