issue headed "Safety burden on employers" I feel that I must make a comment about an excellently reproduced full colour photograph in your issue of October 15.
It shows a man standing precariously on one fork of a stacker truck approximately 8f1 from the ground, steadying himself with his left hand while he worked on the tilt of a trailer with his right hand. The driver of the stacker truck sat with his hand resting on the lift operating levers, but his eyes were on a third person in the picture, not his human load.
I wonder if you will publish the number of safety officers and shop stewards who will be writing to you condemning this unsafe practice and its portrayal.
One shop steward I know would soon be addressing his manager about such a practice. C. WOOD, Commercial Vehicle Workshop Superintendent, Spalding, Lincs.
Our photograph was one of an actual working situation and was not specially posed. Full marks to you for observation — Editor.
