THE ROAD Haulage Association has re-emphasised its view 1 down-licensing, after a paper recently compiled by. the Freig Transport Association and the Society of Motor Maribfacturers ai Trades (CM, October 22) implied that many haulage operators we in favour of down-licensing.
The RHA pointed out that it played no part in the compilation of the paper, but stressed that it was not opposed to the introduction of down-licensing, provided a method could be devised that would not penalise "There can be no denying that there is case for down-licensing, which certain sectors of the professional haulage industry would, by the very nature their operations, welcome," t RHA said.
"But if the Chancellor of t Exchequer were to accept a I in his vehicle excise du revenue as a result of corm sions to the minority, does ar one seriously imagine that would not seek to recoup t loss by extra taxation on rest?"
