• The move toward wider reefers appears to be gathering momentum following a meeting of EEC Commission officials last week, which gave its backing to 2.6m-wide refrigerated vehicles. The commission's proposals now have to be approved by a meeting of European Transport ministers in December.
If ministers give the goahead, wider reefers could be running in the EEC by the middle of next year.
It is thought that the proposals for wide reefers could be linked to certain ATP vehicles with any changes applying to insulated or refrigerated bodywork capable of maintaining temperature ranges from +10°C to —20°C or below, having a wall thickness of at least 45mm and originally built, designed and complying to ATP classes B,C,E and F.
