• New and used truck prices are set to tumble following European Monetary Union (EMU) and the cross-border price transparency that will result. Prices will also be driven down by a Europe-wide surplus of trucks, says a report by KPMG's European Automotive Practice.
James Bentley, co-author of the review, says: "Many of Europe's 300 assembly plants are building cars and trucks that you and I don't want to buy. There are too many factories in Europe, and more are being built." The report points to what it calls a 15-million-vehicle reality gap—a gap between the number of vehicles manufacturers expect to sell and the number experts predict will be bought. 0 Europe's 300 assembly plants are stopped about 20 times a month because parts have not arrived. In the UK, a £300m panic logistics business has been formed to make lost-minute deliveries to the manufacturers.
