• Land Rover's Defender TD5 was revealed to UK buyers. As well as the new fivecylinder turbo-diesel, which will give the 50-year-old design a new lease of life, the Defender has a combined ABS/traction control system for the first time. It is likely to go on sale before the end of this year.
• Also receiving anti-lock brakes for the first time is the LDV Convoy, initially on an off-the-shelf school bus version. LDV also announced one of 1ts biggest orders: 267 Convoy vans and crewcabs.
• Mercedes' Vito van is now available with twin rear doors (in place of the usual tailgate) at no extra cost.
• Making its first UK show appearance was the turbodiesel version of Hyundai's T100 panel van. Power output is now 79hp (59kW) at 3,800rpm, and torque is a healthy 196Nm (1441Oft) at 2,10Orpm.
• Indian manufacturer Iota displayed its Leisure Vehicle, which is yet to be given a name; the off-roader will have up to seven seats and "shift -on-the-fly" four-wheeldrive.
• Ford showed a Supcp Cob version of its Ranger onetonne pickup with a US-style extended cab. The Ranger is due in the UK next year.
