THE BURNS INQUIRY into fuel taxes has received support from a regional chamber of commerce following a survey oflocal hauliers.
The Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce asked its members about the price of fuel in the region and the issue of trucks from abroad using British roads without paying for the privilege.
It has now called on the government to tax foreign operators for using UK roads.
Stephen Docherty, policy officer for the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, reports: "The feedback we have received from haulage firm members is that they are extremely concerned about fuel prices "They are concerned about the fact that haulage companies from abroad use our roads for nothing. Most EU countries charge UK truckers for using their roads"
