While, as Brian Skinner put it: “We’ve all got a job to do,” bus drivers don’t win any prizes for popularity despite being vocationally qualified professionals just like our voters. The Highway Code states that other vehicles should “give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely, especially when they signal to pull away from stops”. All quite reasonable, except this appears to give our bus men the impression they’re invincible. Lawrence Baldock reckons we should be particularly wary of “London bus drivers – get out of their way ‘cos they won’t stop for you. I lost a mirror to one once!”
