Boroline boss goes in first redundancies

• The managing director of Boroline was laid off last week, in the first round of redundancies made at the Kent-based operator since it called in the receiver at the end of February (CM 27 Feb-4 Mar).
David Coupland, managing director for the past four years, was one of 14 staff to be made redundant at the main depot in Maidstone.
"We felt that his function could be taken over," says the receiver, which took control of Boro'line after talks with 30 potential purchasers fell through (CM 16-22 January).
Receiver KPMG Peat Marwick is not saying which other management jobs were lost in the cuts; only that they went across the board and included the sale of six buses.
It still hopes to sell the remaining business, which is operated by 110 staff and 55 buses at Maidstone. The London routes, 130 staff and the Crayford depot have already been taken over by the Kentish Bus and Coach Company.
