Predominant makes within the Fraikin fleet are Renault, Mercedes and Iveco, and Laurent Bonnaure, executive vice-president for international, explains the company will spend in the region of £375m on fleet replacement during 2009, although there is some strong negotiation going on over price. When you're acquiring 8,000-10,000 vehicles per year, you have a certain bargaining power in a depressed market: "We are now looking for the best deals," Bonnaure says with a knowing grin.
As you'd expect when talking to the UK press, Bonnaure has a few observations on the market and, we're pleased to report, they are all glowing: "The acquisition of Lex Transfleet gave us a major lift in the UK," he says. "It was a great acquisition for all concerned, both Fraikin and Lex, and we have made a big step forward in the market as a result.
"This year will be the first year when we see the full-year benefits of the acquisition and the consolidation of the business."
