vir/HERE the coach operators would VV appear to have failed to produce an acceptable co-ordination scheme, the North Western Traffic Commissioners have now stepped in for the first time and prepared a scheme in collaboration with the Yorkshire Commissioners for the Yorkshire-Blackpool
services. With varying reservations, all the parties concerned congratulated the Commissioners on their effort, at a sitting held on Tuesday, to hear objections and representations.
Under this scheme express services from Leeds, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Ossett, DoncaSter and Bradford are co-ordinated for the whole year, with joint running for the winter months, eliminating thousands of vehicle-miles. For the railways, it was represented that road-rail competition would be accentuated.
Mr. J. Lustgarten (for the Yorkshire Pool companies) urged attention to the railway protection afforded by the fares. In the instance of Leeds to Blackpool, the advantage to the railways on the fares was: D'a,y return, 14 per cent., and half-day return, 30 per cent, Ile challenged the railway companies to compound a roadrail co-ordination scheme with the fares of both to be governed.
The Commissioners of the two areas will confer again and announce their final findings in due course.
MORE LEEDS TRAMS TO GO. THE substitution of buses fos trams on two long-established services was recently decided upon by Leeds Transport Committee. The bus services will, it is hoped, be introduced in the autumn and new vehicles are to be purchased.
