Tasker, has taken a 50% stake in German trailer-maker Blumhardt. The acquisition — Bally-vesey's first on the Continent — follows Craven Tasker's decision to buy a European factory.
• BP Oil has today (2 February) opened the first in a chain of truckstops around the country, at Alconbury, Cambridgeshire. The company says the new truckstop is purpose-built to provide truck and coach drivers with facilities which rival those offered to drivers in the United States.
• Waste management and transport specialist Leigh Interests is spending 215 million on a new waste treatment centre in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
• The Department of Transport plans to spend 22.8 billion on road building and maintenance over the next three years — 40% more than Government spending in the three-year period to March 1989. It says more than 40 new schemes including 18 bypasses will be started next year, amounting to 322km of new road.
