• Plans by Silver Arrow Services to build Norfrig refrigerated trailers at an assembly plant in Swindon have fallen through.
The deal between Silver Arrow and Danish trailer firm Norfrig was announced in September last year by Silver Arrow managing director Alan Olding. It included plans to export the trailers, using Crane Fruehauf running gear, to Europe.
It appears the deal fell foul of Norfrig's attempts to discover other sources for UK assembly of their refrigerated trailers. John Bowkett, who as sales and marketing director of Silver Arrow was charged with setting up the trailer building operation, has left the company to join Norfrig where he is helping to establish centres for the production of Norfrig refrigerated trailers in the UK.
A profile of Silver Arrow Services will appear in Commercial Motor dated 16-22 February.
