• The durability and reliability of the new ranges of Leyland Redline trucks were emphasized by Mr Bernard Pickup, truck and bus division home sales director, last week when he spoke to a large gathering of operators organized by the Dove Group (British Leyland distributors) in Croydon.
Mr David Dove assured operators that problems with some earlier Bathgate models had been overcome and that the new Terrier/Boxer/Mastiff ranges could not be judged on the basis of the vehicles which they might have operated five years ago.
Durability and reliability were also referred to by a Perkins spokesman, who said that the series 2 version of the 6.354 diesel was now being called the "toughened 6.354" by operators. It had, he said, proved particularly capable of trouble-free operation at sustained motorway speeds.
A display of chassis and complete vehicles included tippers, demountables, trucks and vans, and operators were able to drive many of the models.
