A SCHEME for the bulk. collection, of milk from farms began in the Longtown area of Cumberland yesterday, Ten producers are initially taking part with a starting gallonage of over 1,500, but the.gallonage will be increased soon to 2,000 by the entry of three more producers into the scheme.
The milk will be delivered a distance of about 75 miles by a 2,500 gallon road tanker to the Newcastle Model Milk Co., Ltd. This dairy is already receiving bulk milk under the Tyneside scheme. • At present three schemes are in operation in the northern region involving three dairies, 57 refrigerated farm tanks and a daily gallonage of 9,500. By August 1 extensions of bulk collection should enable over 17,000 gallons of milk to be picked up daily from farms in the region. • Throughout England and Wales the bulk collection of milk is developing rapidly. At the end of 1960. some 27,500 gallons of milk were being collected daily from 200 refrigerated farm tanks. The daily gallonage now involved is about 137,000 and the number of farm tanks in use is 900.
LONDON PARKING-METER-ZONE GUIDE FOR GOODS DRIVERS
THE promised guide to loading and unloading in the parking-meter zones of central London has now been issued by the Traders Road Transport Association. The 4i-in. x 7-in. booklet contains a list of streets which are wholly or partly within the meter zones, together with a general map of the area, and explains the regulations concerning the parking rights of goods vehicle drivers in these zones and the way in which the several types of restriction apply. The booklet costs Is. 61.1. or 15s. for 12 copies.
