The January meeting of the tail-lift working group included the Ray Smith Group, Radcliff Tail Lifts, Ross & Bonnyman, the Bureau of Engineer Surveyors, the Associa tion of Loading and Elevating Equipment Manufacturers, insurance companies, the Institute of Road Transport Engineers/ Society of Operations Engineers and the Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed).
The group agreed to develop a basic summary of guidance on the maintenance and thorough examination of tail-lifts. This document will address such issues as:
1. The duties of the employer 2. Preventative maintenance 3. When and what to maintain 4. The thorough examination and test 5. The competent person, testing agent 6. The purpose of the thorough examination and test 7. The periodic thorough examination
