to hit stricUS 2010 s-andard
US ENGINE manufacturer Cummins plans to demonstrate an emissions-control system for truck diesel engbes that MI meet the ultra-strict EPA 2010 on-highway exhaust standards well ahead of the deadline. And it won't rely on SCR and AdBlue.
The demo unit will be based on a nine-litre ISL straight-six equipped with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), diesel particulate filter and a nitrogen oxide (N Ox) absorber.
To comply with EPA 2010, the engine must reduce particulate matter to 0.01g/ hp-hr and NOx to 0.2g/hp-hr.
Cummins says that the project highlights one route to lower emissions but stresses that t Is considering all options, including SCR — possibly in combination with EGR.
For the EPA 2007 onhighway regs, most US engine makers including Cummins have opted for EGR combined with variable geometry turbocharging.
