P1fRf. Landon Managing Director H,t11
01 Taunton Pleat Haulage Limited
In a recent interview with Mr. Langdon, he explained some of the problems facing Taunton Meat Haulage Limited, particularly with regard to the Government's proposed new road transport legislation.
In common with all road transport operators, whether large or small, the main problems are to combat the ever increasing costs and to maintain the efficiency of service to their customers, Mr. Langdon and his co-directors at Taunton Meat Haulage have decided that the most effective way of tackling These problems is to standardise with reliable and versatile vehicles and refrigeration equipment, Taunton Meat Haulage, a subsidiary company of Tonevale Transport Ltd., was.formed 10 years ago. During this time, different types of refrigeration equipment, including Petter units, have been used by the company, but it was found that although non mechanical refrigeration might be suitable for certain types of cargo under specific conditions, Fetter mechanical units are so versatile that they can control the load temperature to any required setting, anywhere at any time. This factor, as Mr. Langdon said, is a very important consideration especially with large vehicles when possibly a full load is not always carried for an entire journey.
The programme of standardisation of vehiclesand equipment must obviously be carried out over a long period of time, but the first step towards its achievement has been taken by the acquisition of a new 40 ft. semitrailer fitted with a Petter PCL refrigeration unit, for continental work. This will shortly be followed by the conversion of two existing gas refrigeration vehicles to operate with Fetter KL units.
