• NCV of Nottingham Ltd. has adapted a ground-level-loading articulated trailer made by Becorit (Engineering) Ltd. to produce a 2,150 cu. ft. furniture van. The body is made from alloy framing with ribbed outer panels. has a single-piece, glass-reinforced plastics roof and container-type hinged doors at the rear.
The trailer isfitted with a fifth-wheel coupling and has a chassis made from RSJ with welded cross tubes and channels. The patented suspension is fully compensated with torsion bars and semi-elliptical springs and the hydraulic rams, which raise the wheels and lower the chassis to the ground, are mechanically locked in the running position. A steel tail ramp, hinged to the rear frame, is lowered, and so forms a complete, gentle incline into the body, the body floor being at the same slope. It is claimed that the trailer, when plated, will be able to carry a 12-ton payload.
The first production model will be operated by the removals department of the Wm. H. Short Group of Companies, Newthome, Notts.
