INCREASES of more than 30 per cent are being sought on bus and Underground fares in Glasgow. If approved these would be the second boost in city fares this year.
Mr Ronald Cox, directorgeneral of Greater Glasgow PTE, said he hoped to introduce the new fares early in June, after they had been submitted to the Scottish Traffic Commissioners for approval. The highways and transport committee of Strathclyde Region, which becomes responsible for Glasgow after May 15, has raised no objections. Committee chairman Cllr Tom Fulton said : " It would be unfair at this point to saddle the region with the responsibility for this decision."
He said that he was doubtful whether the Greater Glasgow operation should continue to receive as much support from the rates as it did now.
