Still on the subject of Ford, John F. McLean, vice-president of truck operations, must be one of the most quotable people in the industry. Commenting on one of their test and development vehicles, he said this experimental unit proved to have a gear linkage that was not up to production spec, or, as he put it : "Trying to change gear cleanly was like playing a slot machine with oysters!"
