• Ford Italia has its own equivalent of the County 4x4 conversion of the Transit, but it is a more complex and more expensive conversion at some £4,000. The Transit 4WD 5x5 has a two-speed transfer case mounted midway down the chassis. It is based on the short-wheelbase 100/120 Transit and has the five-speed main gearbox.

Interestingly, although the front suspension is changed to leaf springs for the new drive axle, the rack-and-pinion steering from the original independent set-up is retained.
