• A plan by Ipswich Borough Council to ban lorries from access roads to the town's East Bank Port in the evenings has been attacked by local hauliers.
The proposed bon, which is undergoing consultation, would be the third in the city. It could ban trucks from the Landseer, Nacton and Felixstowe Roads between 19:00-07:00hrs, forcing hauliers to drive Five extra kilometres.
The route is the most direct route to the secure parking and refuelling sites. The proposed ban follows a campaign from local residents that included a petition with 289 signatures. The Road Haulage Association has written to the council. It suggests a ban should not be imposed until an alternative route has been constructed.
The Findings of the consultation are due to be published at the end of June.
