• Temperature-controlled storage and distribution specialist Frigoscandia has been bought by Swedish transport company ASG for £165m. The deal includes Frigoscandia Distribution UK in Herts and all 9,000 European staff.
• French-owned Norbert Dentressangle has expanded into Wales with the purchase of Newport, Gwent-based Sheddick Transport. Sheddick employs 160 staff and operates 100 tractors with 200 trailers on packaging, chemical, foodstuff and steel contracts.
• Thames Water's waste division, Thames Waste Management, has bought the Essex-based transport operations of Cory Environmental. The 16 vehicles and 14 staff based at West Thurrock will now complement Thames' Rainham operation.
• Merlin Distriboion has won a three-year contract to move steel coils for British Steel Strip Products out of its Llanwern and Port Talbot works. A fleet of 65 tractors and 200 specialist trailers will be employed on the contract.
• Ryder has signed a sevenyear contract with Barnsleybased Northern Gullet to supply and maintain five 26tonne Leyland Daf 75-270 skip loaders to work on glass recycling contracts.
• TNT Network Logistics has won a five-year distribution contract with Jiffy Packaging Five tractors and 15 trailers will provide overnight trunking to Jiffy distributors.
• Carmichael International has won the 10-year/£1 1m contract to provide fire Fighting and rescue vehicles for the Ministry of Defence. The deal includes two prototypes and 28 production vehicles.
