During the recent fuel blockade there were no lengths that some desperate motorists wouldn't go to in their quest for a full tank. However, one driver from North Wales took this to extremes—in a bid to avoid queues at the petrol pumps he crossed the sea to Ireland.
The price for his return ticket on the HSS Siena Explorer was £150. Once there he got straight off the boat, filled up with petrol and came back on the return sailing. Somewhere on that journey his sense of irony must have fallen overboard.
In a dispute sparked in the first place by the high cost of fuel, after coughing up for the boat fare he ended up paying £3 a litre more than the normal price.
