by David Craik • Wincanton Logistics has lost out to Huddersfield-based Boyers Distribution on a £46m contract to distribute industrial fuels for Esso UK.
The contract was previously shared by Hoyers and Wincanton. But Esso decided one company could handle the job more efficiently.
Myers' management has refused to comment on the dissatisfaction of more than 80 Wincanton drivers who are unhappy about being transfeiTed over to Boyers as part of the deal.
The new terms and condi
tions will be set by Hoyers on the transfer date of 1 November. Brian Bowen of the Transport & General Workers Union says the drivers feel they will be "unfavourable." On 30 September the drivers met union officials to discuss these terms and conditions. Bowen does not rule out the possibility of the matter going to the employment courts".
Commenting on the contract, Hoyer's business centre manager, Rob Greenwood, says: "Our regional days are over. Now you will see our drivers and vehicles in places such as Birmingham, Southampton and Bristol."
