ANEW tyre spreader for dealing with tyres from 13 in. to 11.00-20 in. is being manufactured by the Barwell Rubber Co., Ltd., Swavesey, Cambridge. By operating a pedal, the tyre is lifted into position and spread out for inspection and treatment.
The operating medium is compressed air, a pressure in excess of 100 psi. being required. As the tyre-holding arms are mounted on ball beatings, the assembly can be revolved with little effort.
The claim is made that a woman can operate the machine and deal with the largest tyre without undue physical effort.
To assist in inspecting the interior casing of the tyre there is a central light within it.
Some idea of the sturdiness of the equipment may he gauged from its weight--556 lb. The price is £200.
