visibility and clear, well laid-out controls, Cross-cab access, however, is limited by the dash-mounted gear lever.
The very substantial subframe and the steel-framed tipper body dig deeply into the available payload. We barely managed one tonne in the back before hitting GVW.
With a 197hp diesel engine, it was certainly not bothered in the slightest by the test load. On the timed hill climb, it romped up at the legal limit in sixth gear.
At slow speeds, the Transit was extremely manoeuvrable. At higher speeds, going around corners an the A-road section, the high subframe, combined with the steel body, led to body roll.
Given the relatively low payload space, it is unlikely the T350, with this bodywork, would be used on long-distance operations. Around towns it is a more than capable workhorse, but it would be difficult to justify such a high-powered engine. RC
