UK commercial vehicle production in July was 8.7% lower than last year at 13,985 vehicles, but for the year to date production is up 2.1% to 123,935 vehicles. Of the CVs produced here in July, 61.5% were for export.
According to Christopher Macgowan, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), distortions in sales figures last year due to haulers rushing to buy Euro-3 trucks before Euro-4 legislation came into force seem to have ended.
"We're at last seeing signs of growth in large commercial vehicle production in the UK," he adds.
But when all CVs are taken into account the modest rise in volumes for the year so far "should result in an annual total of some 215,000" if the growth is sustained, Macgowan concludes.
