DESIGNED for furniture-manufacturers' transport, a new Luton-type van of outsize dimensions has been constructed by J. H. Jennings and Son, Ltd., of Sandbach ; it has a capacity of about 1,400 cubic ft. The chassis used as its basis is the new Morris-Commercial forward-control 5-tonner, with a wheelbase of 13 ft. 6 ins. The interior. dimensions of the body are :—Length, 17 ft. 1 ins. ; width, 6 ft. 11 ins. ; and height from floor, 10 ft. Generous front and rear loading wells add considerably to the cubic capacity, the deep rear well affording an easy entrance, with the spare-wheel housing arranged to form an interior step. Two rear doors, hung on full-width hinges, open out to fold back against the sides of the body. Beneath them is a tailboard, which lowers, to form an easy sloping ramp. The exterior panelling is carried out in aluminium sheets,
whilst the interior is lathed. The vehicle comes within the 3-ton weight limit for registration purposes and should be eminently suitable for the demands of furniture removal,
