Cropper, who argued that Mr Bayliss wanted London Transport and British Rail to pay at the expense of others. He said any measure which helped the economics of LT and BR to the detriment of the economy of freight would add to the cost of living of the entire corn-munity.
The speaker said that although bus lanes made life more difficult for freight carriers and added to their costs, these costs were not as high as was imagined. These together, with parking restrictions, he said, would give more road space for other users.
Mr Bayliss agreed that it would make economic sense to expand the road system.
