A mini-computer system known as Redifon has been introduced by Redif on Electronic Systems Ltd. This manufacturer has supplied a much bigger installation, Seecheck, to the DoE's Swansea Driving and Vehicle Licensing Centre.
The Redicheck computer system can be used as a replacement for a key-punch system or as a remote cluster for a communications network : up to eight keystations may be linked to a central control group, plus the relevant peripherals, such as line or peripheral printers.
Terminals can be used in remote locations connected to the control group, either by cable, or for longer distances by telephone lines.
For larger processing networks Redicheck can communicate to other Redifon systems as well as full-size computers. It eliminates the use of punched cards or paper tape. The operator keys in the data and the system validates it immediately.
