A NEW FUEL marker has been developed that should be harder to launder out of rebated fuel than those currently in use, CM has learned.
The news follows a year-long trial of 11 potential new fuel markers undertaken jointly by HMRC and Ireland. In a statement issued to CM this week, an HMRC spokeswoman said: "The joint UK/Ireland fuel marker project has successfully
identified a more robust marker that will be used by both the UK and Ireland. The successful company was advised and further discussions will be held with this company. Its name will be announced shortly."
The spokeswoman declined to say just how much more robust the new fuel marker is expected to be or when exactly it might be introduced.
