• A limited experiment has now been launched, with the ' co-operation of local authorities, to determine the usefulness of signs giving information to drivers about services that are readily available in towns that have been by-passed.
This was stated by Mr Michael Heseltine, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment, in reply to a Parliamentary question last Friday.
Mr Heseltine said: "The first of these signs have been erected on the trunk road approaches to Honiton and others will be erected at Stamford and Kendal. Each sign comprises a map of the town together with information about services and car parks, etc. If the experiment proves successful consideration will be given to providing nimilar signs on the approaches to other Advance signs to say that the information boards are displayed ahead will also be erected.
