• Daimler-Benz, Nissan Motor and Nissan Diesel are to develop a light commercial vehicle as the first stage in a planned longterm co-operation.
The truck will span the weight range from three to nine tonnes GVW and will be aimed primarily at the Japanese, Asian, Latin American and other emerging markets. The new truck will be manufactured and distributed through Nissan Motor, Nissan Diesel and DaimlerBenz plants and dealerships. The development team will be based in Nissan's Japanese headquarters: Daimler-Benz will move its Light Truck Project from Brazil and Nissan Group will shift its development resources.
Hirofumi Nakazawo, president of Nissan Diesel, says: "I am very glad for this agreement, which allows us to start the joint development of a light commercial vehicle at global scale while we are studying the possibilities of various joint projects with Nissan and Daimler-Benz."
Daimler-Benz chairman Jurgen Shrempp says: "This co-operation will be an important step towards expanding our commercial vehicles lousiness in the Eastern Hemisphere."
