• Paul Elk, the Takeley, Essex-based owner-driver who planned to continue operating after being told that he was unlikely ever to be granted an 0-licence, has now lost his HGV licence. Eastern Traffic Commissioner Geoffrey Simms has also disqualified Ellis from holding an HGV licence for an indefinite period. Ellis failed to appear before the IC, who referred to two convictions for driving HGVs without due care and attention and one of using a vehicle without an 0-licence.Simms decided Ellis fell below the standards expected of professional drivers because of the convictions, and the letter he sent to the Traffic Area saying he would continue to operate after his 0-licence bid was turner down by Deauty IC Brian Horner in May (CM 1 4-20 May). Ellis has lad one of two charges of trailer theft discontinued because of lack of evidence (CM 1 8-24 June).
